Bloomingdale?s Men?s Fall Fashion 2007 ?The New Man: Past is Future?

Fall 2007, New York, NY?1980s Wall Street power suit, Futurism look circa 1984, ski attire for the Swiss Alps, working-class dapper, Marlon Brando of the 1940s, ?Old Californian? elegance ? these are just some of the styles revisited by Fall 2007 men?s fashion at Bloomingdale?s. This season in menswear is an archive of traditional looks that features contemporary elements to create the new man, whose past is the future. This new man likes to mix a modern, active style with classic, refined wardrobe staples, personifying a retro-futurism that is not only remaking the menswear silhouette, but also the construction of the clothes themselves.

Wearing a subtle, made-to-measure detailed black suit with a large metallic leather tote is a fresh take on fall 2007 menswear, and so is a cable-knit cardigan paired off with slim leg trousers tucked into lace-up boots.

The color palette for men?s fall fashion is dark with metallic accents. Black is back and is your best bet whether you are picking a suit, a sportscoat or slim-leg jeans. With a hint of shine, black will draw as much an attention during the day as it will when worn for a night on the town. Luxurious fabrics like durable felts, gabardines and Harris tweeds and futuristic fabrics that are shiny, metallic and glazed are also key this season.

Bloomingdale?s recommends the following must-have items for Fall 2007:

The dark, double-breasted ?Power Suit? has returned, and is a must-have for this season. The suit features lots of fine tailoring, such as wider, peaked shoulders, and should be dressed up with a vest or a fine silk pocket square. Other options of accessories are big watches, cuff links, or a pair of English benchmade shoes.

The Ski Parka is making a statement this season, and will look fresh in many new styles. Experiment with a zippered leather blouson style or a nylon quilted style. If you are feeling bold, try one in metallic leather with a fur-trimmed hood.

A Short Shearling is another great option for outerwear. Considered one of the key trend pieces for the season, it works great with both formal and casual ensembles. Pair with a thermal Henley and jeans for daytime, and with a fitted shirt and slim trousers for the evening.

An oversized Hand-Knit Cardigan is an important piece that is an alternative to the sportscoat or a parka, flirting with the refined working-class wardrobe of the 40s. Worn with a pair of slim straight-leg pants or jeans and a small collar shirt, it is the ideal outfit out of the office.

A pair of slim straight-leg pants or jeans is a classic piece that if you do not already own, you must purchase this season. Besides being a staple in the wardrobe, it is an essential part of many looks for the season. Slim pants tucked into lace-up boots with a fitted shirt and skinny tie is the perfect example of retro-futurism.

Metallica is key to complete this season?s look. Whether it?s a slim silver band running down the side of a coat, a pullover or a full-on metallic ski parka, metal highlights the futuristic iconography of the season. For the more traditionally dressed man, Bloomingdale?s recommends using metallic accessories such as bronzed shoes, silver belts, and metallic exotic-skin travel bags.

The Large Shiny Leather Tote is the bag of the season, and can be incorporated into multiple outfits. In a neutral tone, it serves as a subtle accent to a classic ensemble. In the trendy metallic hue of the season, it is a definitive fashion piece that will modernize any look.

The newest footwear of the season is Lace-Up Boots. What differentiates these from the work boots of past seasons is the way they are worn: with pants tucked into the boots. Whether you select slim fitting trousers, dark denim jeans or chinos, tuck them into your lace-up boots for an instant fashion update.
