BLOOMINGDALE?S OPENS WEST COAST FLAGSHIP IN SAN FRANCISCO!
Bloomingdale?s is scheduled to open its second largest store in the country at the Westfield San Francisco Centre at Market and Fifth Streets. The new store will generate in excess of over 550 new jobs. Encompassing 330,000 square feet, each of the five levels is designed to capture the eclectic mix of San Francisco and New York, while adding distinctive Bloomingdale?s detailing.
The highly anticipated opening is slated for September 28th of this year. To celebrate, Bloomingdale?s will underwrite a gala cocktail reception to benefit clinical and research programs at the University of California, San Francisco Children?s Hospital. The event will take place on September 26th from 6-9 PM. Headliner entertainer will be Chris Botti, Grammy Award-Winning jazz trumpeter, who is scheduled to perform at 7:45. All ticket proceeds plus a portion of sales made that evening will be donated to the organization.
Says Michael Gould, Chairman and CEO of Bloomingdale?s, ?The opportunity to open a store in a city as beautiful and sophisticated as San Francisco is an enormously exciting venture for us. We believe we have designed a store that will provide the ultimate shopping experience for the Bay Area.?
The new Westfield San Francisco Centre is designed to integrate the existing San Francisco Centre with the adjacent former Emporium department store building. The Emporium, originally built in 1904 and destroyed in the 1906 earthquake, was later rebuilt. Its dome, dating back to that time, is considered an historic piece of architecture in San Francisco and is the centerpiece of the project.
Comments Jack Hruska, Executive Vice President of Creative Services for Bloomingdales,
"We are proud that we were part of the team that was able to maintain the integrity of the historical architectural features of a San Francisco landmark building. The transformation of the Emporium site involved creating a textured environment that was a lively mix between the existing structure on Market and the contemporary face on Mission, bringing new life to the location."
