DAVID BURKE AT BLOOMINGDALE'S
Chef brings creative cuisine to world famous store
Fall 2005, New York, NY... Chef David Burke, one of the leading pioneers of American cooking, will open David Burke at Bloomingdale's [1000 Third Avenue, entrance on 59th Street; 212.705.3800] in late November. Chef Burke's new dual concept restaurant spans the 59th Street frontage of the world famous department store offering a stylish, full service Burke Bar Cafe on one side and a convenient Burke in the Box take-out and eat-in concept on the other. Bringing together delicious, affordable fare, top service and a fun atmosphere, David Burke at Bloomingdale's will satisfy the cravings of the city's most discerning shoppers, visitors and residents.
The Burke Bar Cafe will offer full service breakfast, lunch and dinner from 7 am to 10 pm with seating for 40. Coffee by Illy and organic fresh juices as well as a variety of breakfast goodies including omelet sticks and gourmet pastries will fuel commuters and shoppers. And in the evening hours, Burke Bar Cafe transforms from a bustling breakfast and lunch spot to an intimate supper spot with a wine bar that features half bottles. A three course prix-fixe dinner will be offered for $29.
Burke in the Box, with its signature packaging of pinstripe bags and brightly colored custom designed boxes will serve hot items and boxed cold items including "Burke style" sandwiches, salads and unique side dishes. This fast-casual side of Chef Burke's restaurant will be open from 11am to 7pm and seat 35. The Burke Bar Cafe and Burke in the Box will have their own distinct menus. Signature dishes will include, mini "cheeseburkers," duck meatloaf sliders, haute dawgs (franks in a blanket cordon bleu) cups of cake, and cheesecake lollipops. Both menus will also offer a variety of healthy choices.
Leo Modrcin of uRED Architecture transformed the long, narrow space into two whimsical eateries using vibrant colors and warm materials of wood, glass and steel as well as a distinct patterned floor taking a cue from Bloomingdale's traditional black and white checkerboard pattern. Architecturally the two spaces are treated as an extension of the store's interior, and will lead to the main floor cosmetics and the lower level Men's departments. David Burke at Bloomingdale's will be chic yet casual and provide an intimate environment to enjoy Chef Burke?s innovative and witty creations. The ultimate architecture will be David Burke's food itself, with his whimsical interpretations that turn familiar, high quality ingredients into "Burke style" gastronomic feasts.
