Happening in Soho!

Bloomingdale's is set to open a second New York City location in a landmark building at 504 Broadway between Spring and Broome Streets. This contemporary men's and women's specialty store occupies 90,000 square feet of selling space. Each level is designed to capture the eclectic spirit of Soho while adding distinctive Bloomingdale's detailing.

"The opportunity to extend our brand downtown is really exciting for us," said Michael Gould, Chairman and CEO of Bloomingdale's. "We have designed a store that will provide the ultimate shopping experience and hope it will become Soho's newest neighborhood store," continued Gould.

The renovation and restoration of the circa 1862 building was done in an effort to maintain the integrity of the landmark space. "We wanted to create a textured environment that was a lively mix between the existing details of the old cast iron Soho factory building and the new, more modern materials we intended to use," said Jack Hruska, Vice President of 's.

Highlights of the renovation include a new entryway on the Broadway side of the store, a dramatic new escalator well, rising from the lower level to the fifth floor, and windows throughout the store were opened up from floor to ceiling to create additional light. The three-story escalator well was retained and theatre lights were added to showcase a thirty-foot high grand gallery wall for highlighting new and exciting merchandise.

FLOOR BY FLOOR:
The lower level will house men's contemporary clothing and shoes in an environment that honors the building's history. The original tin ceiling has been completely exposed and the pitted factory floors have been left in place but refinished. A sampling of vendors in the men's area includes Capital Tailors, Rare, Penquin, Thomas Burberry and Coast.

The ground level will have Bloomingdale?s signature black and white checkerboard marble flooring, leading customers through soft pink colored cosmetic treatment bars and a French-inspired perfumery.
